A good friend of mine recently had his notebook hard drive fail. I’m looking to see if anyone out there has a Hatachi Travelstar 60GB IDE hard drive so I can replace the circuit board and retrieve the data. If you happen to have one of these drives, even if it is failing, please contact me.

I got the drive board from eBay, and it worked perfectly 🙂

  1. that does suck, i hope its just the PCB that needs to be replaced… I have a photographer client who had 2 drives fail (in a raid 1) that have to be repaired… almost $500 a pop to swap platters…

  2. Hey if you only need to retrieved the files, why not just pull out the HDD from the laptop and put in an IDE-to-USB device so that you can retrieve/fix the failed HDD…

  3. the thing is, Pilotav, from what hes saying, the drive DOESNT WORK… it failed, from clicking to just not spining up, normally the PCB of HDD’s fail, not the platters, so if you replace the PCB you can regain access to otherwise unaccessible data…

Simple: Drive doesnt work, so just putting it in a HDD caddy wont work…

  4. i think i may have a spare drive of that type from my old think pad that died but its only 40gb but im in the process of moving right now so if it would help and you can wait about a week i would be more than happy to give it to you
